How to get started with Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a free tool which can be used by anyone for their website and mobile app to fetch user interaction data. Setting up a Google analytic account is very easy even if you don’t have any tech knowledge. So let’s get started with Google Analytics and start collecting basic data from your website and mobile app after creating the new Google Accounts for your website or mobile app:

Google Analytics for Website:

Create a new Google Analytics account if you don’t have one. Visit , Sign in to the Analytic platform with your Google account username and password, if you don’t have one sign-up for new account and start the following process:

  • Sign into the Analytics button (top right) and follow the screen instructions
  • Set up a property in the account you have created
  • Follow the instruction for web tracking

Google Analytics for Mobile App using the Google Analytics SDK (legacy SDKs)

  • Set up a new app property in your Analytics account

To set up a new app property in Analytics, you’ll need to have Edit permission for the Analytics account. In your Analytics account, set up a new app property for every app you want to track. A tracking ID is automatically generated for each property. You need the ID(s) to complete the data collection set up. Follow the instructions on how to set up a new app property.

  • Download the Analytics SDK and implement the app tracking ID

Download the Analytics SDK for Android or iOS from the same account screen that provides the tracking ID. Follow either the Developer Guide for Android or Developer Guide for iOS to implement tracking via the SDK, including the tracking ID. This tracking ID collects and send usage data about your mobile app to your Analytics account.

Note: This process requires access to your app source code and should be completed by the app developer. Read all the implementation documentation carefully. All Mobile App Analytics reports are based on this set up. Errors in your set up can result in corrupted or incomplete data.

Google Analytics for Mobile App using Firebase Analytics

You can track your mobile app using Firebase Analytics and see your reports in Google Analytics. If your app already uses Firebase, you can connect it to Google Analytics. If you don’t have a Firebase account, follow these instructions to sign up for Firebase and track your app using Firebase Analytics.

  • Sign in to your Google Analytics account.
  • Select the Admin tab.
  • In the PROPERTY column, select Create new property from the dropdown menu.
  • Select Mobile app.
  • Select Firebase Analytics and click “Go to Firebase”. You’ll be taken to Firebase where you can sign up

Manage and configure Analytics:

The Next important step after setting up a new Google Analytics is managing and configures the following:

  • Accounts
  • Properties
  • Views

Click Admin at the top of any Analytics page to manage and configure your accounts, properties, and views.

An account is the highest level of organization and you can have one or more accounts in Analytics. An account contains one or more properties. Each property usually represents a specific website or a mobile app. Properties contains views, which are subsets of reporting data for the property.

There are three columns: ACCOUNT, PROPERTY, and VIEW. Use the drop-down selector at the top of each column to:

  • Select the account, property, and view you want, or
  • Create a new account, property, or view.

You can use the links in each column to configure your selected account, property, or view.

Click User Management in the ACCOUNT column to add users to your selected account. To add users to a property, click User Management in the PROPERTY column. To add Goals to a view, click Goals in the VIEW column.
