9 important Blog SEO Tips to Optimize your Blog Posts (SEO for Blogs)

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an inevitable tool for any marketer to help notify their website and blog posts to the users who are looking for keywords which are associated with the brand, product, or service through search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, Baidu or Yandex etc. Here in this article on blog SEO tips, we will give you some basic Search Engine Optimization techniques to get more traffic to your blogs from Search Engine platforms.

1) Long Tail Keywords

Keyword optimization is a practice of analyzing and researching the best possible keywords for your blogs or website which drives quality traffics from the leading search engine platforms as a part of blog SEO. One thing to keep in mind is optimization of the keyword is not about incorporating more and more keyword to the content as possible as you can but try to optimize for just one or two keywords.

Using long tail keyword will be the appropriate way for you to get more quality traffic or leads to the website or blog, as most of the users are used to type long tail keywords to get the information they are looking for.

To make things easier to understand, we will give you an example for the two different types of Keywords.

  • Long Tail Keyword: eg: How to write a great Blog post
  • Head Term Keyword: eg. Blogging

Here from the above example, you could easily figure it out that the “Long Tail Keywords” will be more specific to your product or services than the “Head Term Keyword” as it is much more generic and very hard to rank.

2) Include the right Keywords to the specific parts of your Blog Posts.

Now after researching and analyzing the right keywords for your website or blog, the next important step is to incorporate the right keywords on your blog to get better ranking in search results.

There are four important places where you can incorporate the right keyword so as to get the desired blog SEO result: Headline or Title, Headers & Body, URL and Meta description.

  • Headline

Headline or Title of your website or blog will the first step for the search engines and the readers to evaluate the relevancy of your content, so include the keyword here is a vital part.

Make sure the content in the title or headline to keep within the first 65 characters as Google cuts it off on search engine result pages (SERPs). In the organic searches Google measures the headline or title by pixel width, not character count. Also, Google recently increased pixel width measurement from approximately 500 pixels to approximately 600 pixels, while converting to characters then it will be around 65 characters.

When the Headline or Title content is long then the better idea is to get your right keyword in the starting as it might be cut off in SERPs towards the end, which can take a toll on your post’s perceived relevancy.

  • Body & Headers

Incorporate the keyword throughout the body and the headers of your post in a subtle way. It means include them in the copy as well, but only in a natural, reader-friendly way. Never over-stuff the keywords throughout the blog content because there is a risk of being penalized keyword stuffing. It would be a great Idea if you could plan in an optimal way how to incorporate the keywords into the blog post content before start writing, but it shouldn’t be your only focus, nor even your primary focus.

Whenever you start writing a blog post your primary focus should be how effective will be the post for your readers rather than stuffing as much as keywords as you can, which means give focus to blog SEO should be secondary in terms of the content quality. If you could able to help readers with answering whatever questions they asked through comments, which will help you in return naturally.

  • URL

Search engines also check your URL to determine what your post is about, and it is one of the main steps for search engines before crawling to a website or a blog page. There is immense of opportunity for you in optimizing URLs of all your blog posts as your blog posts are lives on its own unique URLs. So it is important to include your one to two keywords on your blog posts URLs.

  • Meta Description

Optimizing the Meta description is very important to any website or blog as it is a foremost thing to be done in “On-Page SEO”. Your Meta description is meant to give information to the search engines and readers about your blogs and WebPages, So be certain to use your long-tail term so Google and your audience are clear on your post’s content. At the same time keep in mind copy matters a great deal to get more user engagements and click rates.

3) Your Blog should be Responsive and Mobile Friendly.

Google recently unveiled the important information on search engine user’s behavior that more users’ access search engines on their mobile phone than on Desktop, that’s why Google showcase responsive sites first in their search feed than the non-responsive sites. In other way Google favors’ responsive or mobile friendly sites more that the non-responsive one which has been true since the Google Algorithm updates on April 2015 & March 2016.

Responsive design sites always increase the user-friendliness among the mobile users and at the same time it is inevitable for blog SEO, otherwise your webpage or blogs search rank could suffer.

If the blog or the website uses mobile friendly or responsive designs then your blog posts have single URL’s instead of separate URL for mobile and desktop respectively. It will enhance SEO of blog because any inbound links back straight to your site without divided between separate URLs and at the same time, such practices helps search engines to index your blog pages and showcase better ranking in search engine new feed.

4) Meta Description Optimization.

Meta description is the additional information or texts that appear in Search Engine Result Page (SERP) which helps the users to get to know what exactly the link is all about. Meta description gives an Idea to the searchers about the link to determine whether the same information or not what they are looking for, at the same time it will help the searchers to decide to click on the link or not.

Note: Nowadays it is not guaranteed that search engine pulls the same Meta description which we assigned as it once was. Google search fetch data from other parts of your blog post that includes the keywords searched, presumably to give searchers optimal context around how the result matches their specific query.

What text Google fetch from your blog as meta description is depends upon the relevancy of your content and there’s not much you can do to influence Google Algorithm, you should constantly optimize your post readability by creating user friendly content with natural keyword selection, it will gradually make easier for Google to prove relevancy in Search Engine Result Pages for your blog.

5) Image Optimization

To increase the visibility of your blog post to its maximum is not possible without adding proper images with Alt text which explain or support your content. Search engines don’t look for images alone, rather they look for images with Alt Text because search engines can’t see the images as human can but the image with Alt text convey them what exactly the image is all about, simultaneously such practice of adding images with Alt text on your blog helps to found those in search websites or for a better blog SEO practice.

Technically, adding alt text to an image is an attribute in HTML. Find the below HTML code for your reference how an image tag in look like:

<img class=”alignCenter shadow” src=”image234.jpg” alt=”image-description” title=”image tooltip”>

Adding your long tail keyword to your alt text will not impact much in the search result as the same way the other factors discussed above, but it is a good practice or takes extra time to change the image file name from something like “IMG4523” to accurate and to the point what exactly the image all about.

6) Avoid Similar Topic tags in Blog SEO.

Topic tag in your blog SEO is very important but still if you are using it too much will negatively affect the ranking of your blog posts or WebPages in the search engines; you may get penalized for using more and more duplicate content. For example, if you create a new topic tag means you are creating a new page on your website where the content based on the topic tag will appear. So if you are using the same topic tag too many times, it may then appear to search engines as if you are using same content multiple times throughout your website or blog post.

So if you are worried about too much of similar topic tag in your blog post then take some time to clean up them all, ideally try to keep maximum of 20-25 topic tags that you seem to be very important to your blog and that are not to be too similar to each other, and then only tag your post with those keyword, this is how you could avoid worrying about too much of similar topic tag in your blog post content.

7) URL Structuring

URL structure helps the readers to categorize different content parts in the website; it will give the readers how to navigate through the website to get the right information what they are looking for. As far as, the search engines are concern, such practice will be appreciated as it makes easier for search engines to find out exactly what kind of information users will look on different areas of your blog or website.
